# JobKeeper — Full Product Reference

## What is JobKeeper?

JobKeeper (myjobkeeper.com) is a web-based job application tracking tool. It provides a structured way to record, monitor, and analyze every application in a job search across all platforms and channels. The product was created in 2015 by Kevin Cole to solve his own job search chaos, and relaunched in 2025 as a modern React/TypeScript application.

The core insight: most job seekers apply across LinkedIn, Indeed, company career pages, referrals, and cold outreach simultaneously. No single job board captures the full picture, and spreadsheets require too much manual maintenance. JobKeeper is the neutral, cross-platform layer that ties everything together.

JobKeeper is also used by people receiving unemployment benefits to document weekly job search activity for their state unemployment office (e.g. Massachusetts DUA, New York DOL, California EDD, Texas Workforce Commission). JobKeeper is not affiliated with or integrated into any state unemployment system — it is a personal record-keeping tool, and users still report through their state's official channels.

## Application statuses

Each job application moves through a defined lifecycle:

- **Interested** — A job you want to apply to but have not yet. Use it as a wishlist.
- **Applied** — Submitted application, awaiting response.
- **Interviewing** — Active interview process underway (phone screens, technical rounds, panels).
- **Offer** — Received a job offer.
- **Accepted** — Accepted an offer. The search is over.
- **Rejected** — Application declined at any stage.
- **Archived** — No longer active; automatically applied to stale applications after a configurable period.

## Data captured per application

For each job application, users can record:
- Company name, job title, location, remote/hybrid/in-person type
- Application URL
- Application date
- Current status (with full change history)
- Salary range (minimum and maximum)
- Recruiter or hiring manager name and contact details
- Whether the user was recruited (inbound) or applied outright
- Notes (free text)
- Custom tags
- Source platform (LinkedIn, Indeed, company site, referral, etc.)

## Dashboard and analytics

The dashboard provides:
- Total applications by status
- Response rate (applications that received any response vs. total submitted)
- Interview conversion rate
- Applications over time
- "Jump Back In" — recent applications requiring follow-up attention
- Filterable, sortable list view with density settings (compact/comfortable/spacious)
- Paginated results with configurable page size

## Import and export

- CSV import: bulk-import applications from any spreadsheet
- Google Sheets import: direct connection via the fetch-google-sheet edge function
- CSV export: full data export at any time, no subscription required

## AI assistant

Premium users have access to an AI assistant that is grounded exclusively in the user's own application data (synced to a private knowledge base). It can answer questions like "Which companies have I not heard back from in two weeks?", "What is my response rate for remote roles?", or "Summarize my interviews this month."

## How JobKeeper compares to alternatives

### vs. Spreadsheets
Spreadsheets are free but require manual upkeep, have no application history, no reminder system, and provide no analytics. JobKeeper automates the housekeeping and surfaces insights that a spreadsheet cannot.

### vs. Job boards (LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.)
Built-in job board trackers only capture applications submitted on that specific platform. They share data with recruiters, serve ads, and do not allow export. JobKeeper is platform-agnostic, private, and fully exportable.
